Residents encouraged to observe professional display at Fourth Fest
As Independence Day approaches, the City of Norman would like to kindly remind residents that personal fireworks discharge is prohibited in City limits and could result in tickets or municipal fines in accordance with Chapter 14 of City Code. Residents are welcome to attend commercial fireworks displays that are permitted through the City and administered by professionals in a safe, controlled setting. Norman’s Fourth Fest – complete with music, food, vendors, and games – will kickoff at 5 p.m. July 4 and concludes at dusk with the largest fireworks display in the state at Reaves Park. The event is free and open for all to attend.
Each year, thousands of serious injuries are caused by fireworks, in addition to substantial property loss. The sites and sounds of fireworks can also cause distress in pets and to neighbors with certain medical conditions or disorders.
To report the illegal use of fireworks, call non-emergency dispatch at 405.321.1444. Do not dial 911. 911 should only be called if someone is injured, there is imminent danger or there is a fire.
