Community members are welcome to apply for the 2023 Citizen’s Academy program, coordinated through the Office of Communications and designed to familiarize participants with the roles, services and operations that comprise local government.
“We want to capitalize on collaborative opportunities with Normanites and give an in-depth look at where their tax dollars are going each day,” said Tiffany Vrska, Chief Communications Officer for the City of Norman. “These types of programs foster civic engagement and create space for City staff and residents to connect and share knowledge.”
The program is offered at no cost and will take place during Monday evenings for 14 weeks beginning July 24, 2023. It is set to include site visits to major City facilities, presentations from department heads, interaction with elected officials and more. Applications are available to those 18 and up that are residents or business owners in Norman, or employed full-time in Norman. Those interested in applying should visit https://www.normanok.gov/city-norman-citizens-academy-2023 to review standards for admission and complete an application. Applications for the program will be open until July 3 or until filled; the academy will be limited to the first 25 participants that meet standards for admission.
“We received positive feedback and valuable insight during the 2022 program and are very much looking forward to meeting this year’s class,” Vrska said.
