GAME NOTES

  • Oklahoma City scored its five runs on seven hits while the Evangels finished with five hits.
  • One of the biggest factors of the game was hitting with runners in scoring position as the Stars went 3-for-10 with RISP while the Evangels went 0-for-5. Two-out hitting was also heavily in-favor of OCU as the Stars batted 4-for-11 with two outs while MACU was held to 1-of-7 with two away.
  • The only Evangel to finish with multiple hits in the contest was Aurelia Holguin, who slashed 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
  • Brooklyn Wilson was the only other MACU player to notch an extra-base hit, smacking a double to left in the bottom of the second.
  • With MACU trailing by just one, a momentum shifting moment came in the bottom of the second when the Evangels loaded the bases with a Holguin single, a Wilson double and a Cailey Parsells walk. However, MACU came up empty when Mikaylee Allen popped out to the third baseman in foul territory to end the frame.
  • Rachel Eggleston suffered just her second loss of the season in the circle, allowing four earned runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts.

GAME NOTES

  • Oklahoma City scored its four runs on five hits while the Evangels scored its one run on four hits.
  • After playing a clean game defensively in game one, MACU made some costly defensive mistakes in the early going of the second contest. In the first inning, the Stars put a pair of runners on with one out as Mikaylee Allen elected to try and get the force out at second instead of trying to throw out Tiffany Paul at first, setting up Kamryn Garvie. The junior first baseman hit another chopper toward Allen, but a momentary bobble before trying to get the force out at second allowed Brooklyn Mason to reach third and then score on a defensive lapse, making it a 1-0 game.
  • Two more costly mistakes in the second inning allowed another unearned Stars run to come across. After Cailey Parsells ran in to snag a pop-up into shallow center field for the second out, OCU's Analise Rayburn advanced to second when Parsells tried to flip the ball to second baseman Megan Widener when she was not looking for the ball. After Parsells tried to run down the loose ball and throw it down to third, another errant throw allowed Rayburn to score, brining it to a 2-0 game.
  • After putting together some clutch at-bats in the first game, the Stars once again put together a two-out rally in the fifth. After Schneringer retired the first two batters, OCU's lead-off Rally Radacy reached on a walk before Mason smashed a double to left-center to score her from first. Tiffany Paul then dropped an RBI base knock to right-center to swell the Stars advantage to 4-0.
  • Mid-America Christian had a golden opportunity to get a run back in the bottom of the sixth when Allen drove a one-out triple to the right-center field fence on a scorching liner, but Hallie Wilson and Widener came up empty in the next two at-bats to keep her stranded at third.
  • The Evangels put together a massive threat in the final frame when Olivia Roberts and Emylee Campbell led off the inning by being hit by pitches in back-to-back at-bats with Campbell and pinch-runner Stormy Haynes getting down to second and third on a Kenzee Danielson groundout to third two batters later. With two away, Macy Stockton smashed a hard-grounder that just got past the diving third baseman, allowing Haynes to score to make it a 4-1 game and bring the tying run to the plate.
  • However, MACU's rally would end in Allen's at-bat as Paul's throw down to first on a chopper to the shortstop just barely beat out the speedy Allen to end the contest.
  • Stockton recorded the only RBI of the day for the Evangels while Allen's triple was MACU's only extra-base hit of the second game.
  • Despite suffering the loss, Avery Schneringer tossed her fourth complete-game of the season, allowing just two earned runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
  • With Oklahoma City getting the win, Phil McSpadden in his 36th season at the helm of the Stars program became the all-time winningest collegiate softball coach with 1,860 victories, surpassing Mike Candrea (Arizona/Central Arizona) in the books.
