Four Sooners scored in double figures and the Oklahoma men's basketball team earned the 89-53 victory over Oklahoma City at Lloyd Noble Center Tuesday night in the Sooners' lone exhibition of the 2022-23 schedule.
Grant Sherfield led the Sooners with 14 points and added four assists. Tanner Groves tallied a double-double, adding 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Freshmen Milos Uzan and Otega Oweh each recorded 11 points in 20-plus minutes of action.
"I definitely think we are deeper," said Oklahoma head men's basketball coach Porter Moser. "Our five returning guys are much stronger and better physically. Tonight, is something to build on."
The Sooners led for 37-plus minutes and dominated the paint, outscoring the stars 50-16. OU's bench scored 46 points, while the OCU second squad managed seven.
After the Stars briefly captured the lead on an opening basket, the Sooners offense found their rhythm and Oklahoma held an 11-point advantage ten minutes into the first half. OU ended the half up 39-24 after a 7-2 run in the final four minutes.
Out of the break, Oklahoma scored nine points in the first five minutes, including back-to-back 3-point plays that sent the Sooners to the line.OU pushed its lead to 34 points with under eight minutes remaining after putting together a 19-2 run. Sherfield was responsible for seven consecutive OU points during the stretch, rattling in a pair of jumpers and a 3-pointer.
Benny Schröder capped the offensive outburst with a fastbreak layup, giving the Sooners a 70-54 edge with under eight minutes remaining.
Oklahoma continued to control the pace and never let its lead dip below 30.
In total, 12 Sooners appeared in the contest and 11 registered a point. Oklahoma shots 50% (34 of 68) from the field and limited OCU to 27.1% (19-70).
