Emily Cerny from Science & Arts collected the Sooner Athletic Conference female student-athlete of the year as sponsored by Barnes & Noble College for the second year in a row and third time in four years.

The conference highlighted the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes by naming student-athletes of the year by sport and an overall female student-athlete. Sports information directors throughout the SAC voted upon the honors taking into account both academic and athletic achievements of the recipients.

Cerny, a senior pitcher from Newcastle, Okla., achieved several milestones in NAIA history with her career statistics – 144-22 record, 1,414 strikeouts, 1.08 earned run average, 1,047 innings pitched, 64 shutouts, 15 no-hitters and 186 appearances. In 2022, Cerny turned in a 34-5 mark, 0.90 ERA and 388 strikeouts in 255.1 innings pitched and leading the NAIA in strikeouts (388), complete games (31), shutouts (19) and innings pitched (255.1).

Cerny spearheaded the Drovers to four NAIA Tournament appearances, three trips to the NAIA Softball World Series, the 2018 national championship, two third-place national finishes, two SAC regular-season titles and the 2021 conference tournament crown. She became three-time NAIA pitcher of the year, four-time first-team NAIA all-American, three-time first-team NFCA all-American, 2018 World Series most valuable player, five-time SAC pitcher of the year and 20-time SAC pitcher of the week. Science & Arts has announced her No. 1 jersey will be retired. The league has named her SAC female athlete of the year for 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Cerny's academic honors include three-time SAC scholar-athlete, four-time academic all-SAC and five-time conference commissioner's honor roll. Cerny graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education and a minor in education, business administration, as well as liberal arts. She posted a 3.84 cumulative grade-point average.
