Oklahoma head men's golf coach Ryan Hybl announced the promotion of Bill Allcorn from assistant coach to associate head coach on Friday.
Allcorn arrived in Norman in 2017 and has helped the Sooners produce the most productive five-year stretch in program history. As a result of his incredible track record, Allcorn was named the Jan Strickland National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2021.
"I'd like to thank Coach Hybl, Larry Naifeh and Joe Castiglione for the promotion and title of associate head coach," Allcorn said. "I'm so fortunate to get to work with such a great administration, support staff and, of course, great players. It's so much fun coming to work every day and trying to build the best golf program in the country."
Over the last five seasons, Oklahoma has won two Big 12 Championships, 2018 and 2022, and has the best average team ranking of any program in the country. The Sooners have filled the trophy case, winning 22 tournaments, including a school-record tying seven in 2021-22. With Allcorn assisting Hybl, OU is the only program in the country to appear in match play at the last six NCAA Championships, finishing as the runner-up in 2021. After winning the Strickland Award in 2021, he earned a spot on the Team USA coaching staff at the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup in Geneva, Switzerland.
"Bill has been an extremely important piece for our golf program since his arrival in the fall of 2017," Hybl said. "He has worked diligently on his craft and values helping our guys get better every day. I'm proud of Bill for everything he stands for and for being a great leader for our guys."
Since 2017, Oklahoma has collected 17 All-America selections, and its 2021 team saw the entire five-person lineup earn All-America honors. Allcorn worked closely with Chris Gotterup, who transferred to Oklahoma from Rutgers for a final collegiate season that saw the Sooner become the program's first Haskins Award and National Player of the Year honoree. In addition, nine Oklahoma golfers have graduated and played professional golf in the five years that Allcorn has been in Norman.
Before his tenure at Oklahoma, Allcorn was a volunteer assistant at his alma mater Baylor for two seasons. He also is the developer of the nationally renowned Explosive Golf Training, a program designed to help golfers maintain posture and balance while improving accelerating and decelerating abilities in their golf swing. Prior to his coaching career, Allcorn played professionally for eight years and was the 2011 winner of the Adams Pro Tour money list, earning numerous victories on the Tour, state opens and pro-am events. A four-year letter winner for the Bears in college, Allcorn played in 38 college tournaments and finished as the 2009 Big 12 runner-up. He graduated cum laude in 2009 after a career that produced two All-American Scholar honors and four Academic All-Big 12 selections.
Allcorn, Hybl and the Sooners will return to the course this fall with the team's schedule to be finalized and announced at a later date.
