The Norman Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance in the 1900 block of W. Boyd Street at approximately 8:27 a.m. today. The disturbance was near Alcott Middle School. Out of an abundance of caution, NPD placed Alcott Middle School and nearby school Jackson Elementary on a secure perimeter.
The City of Norman released a request for proposal (RFP) this week for an affordable rental housing development following approval of Norman City Council. As part of the project, the City of Norman will utilize Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) to provide an assistance package to mitigate barriers to rental housing development that result in long-term affordable rents for the target market.
The Norman Parks & Recreation Department is excited to host a Kids to Parks Day celebration on May 20th, 2023, at Rotary Park, 1501 W. Boyd. The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. and will offer a variety of exciting activities for children of all ages.

Norman voters will cast ballots in a Water Rate Proposition on June 13, 2023. Norman City Council approved this item to be put toward a vote of the people in March 2023.
Installation of All-Way Stop Control will occur on 5/18/23 at 168th Avenue NE and Franklin Road. The installation is the result of an intersection evaluation brought on by a citizen concern. During the intersection evaluation, it was determined that the all-way STOP will be installed as a result of sight distance limitations at the intersection.
Norman Public Works Weeks is set to kick off May 9, 2023, with a proclamation of acknowledgement from Mayor Larry Heikkila recognizing Public Works weeks during May. The local celebration precedes American Public Works Association (APWA) Public Works Week beginning May 21; planned activities highlighting the importance of this field will center on education, volunteering, and recognition.
Beginning Monday, May 15, 2023, the east side of the intersection at Porter Avenue and Eufaula Street will be closed to construct new paving in conjunction with the Porter Avenue Streetscape 2019 Bond Project.
The Norman Neighbors Project, powered through the Neighborhood Alliance of Central Oklahoma, will partner with City of Norman staff to host two “Streetwise Norman” workshops from 6-8 p.m. on May 11 and May 18 at Sarkeys Foundation, 530 E. Main Street. The free events will provide community members with the tools to identify public health hazards and information needed to effectively report them.
The Norman Police Department will roll out 12 hybrid patrol vehicles in the coming weeks. The addition of these new vehicles to the police department fleet follow the completion of a 15-month pilot program in partnership with the City of Norman's Automotive Fleet Division.
A project to replace approximately 200 feet of sewer line in Oliver’s Woods, off of State Highway 9 and east of Chautauqua Avenue, is set to begin next week. The work will not impact traffic but the entering and exiting of work vehicles or equipment may be observed from the highway.
