Ranchwood Nursing Center emerged as the largest nursing home in Canadian County during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility offered 150 beds—60 above the county average for that period—and had an average daily census of 107.6 residents.

CMS assigned Ranchwood Nursing Center an overall rating of 1 out of 5, which is lower than Oklahoma’s average nursing home rating of 2.7.

Throughout the quarter, River Oaks Skilled Nursing and Therapy was the second largest in the county with 120 available beds, while Gran Grans Place ranked third with 69 beds.

As of the first quarter of 2026, Ranchwood Nursing Center had paid $67,525 in fines and incurred one penalty.

Canadian County, Oklahoma, is home to one non-profit nursing facility in total.

Data from U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the nation’s population of older adults is expanding while younger demographics decline. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and over increased by 13%, as the under-18 group dropped by 1.7%. Over the last 100 years, the older adult population surged from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024, marking dramatic growth, according to the Census Bureau.

Research from 2021 estimates that roughly half of older adults—or 28 million people—may need long-term services and supports, and over one-third may ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
