Today, the House Appropriations Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee convened to discuss its Fiscal Year 2026 bill. The Subcommittee approved the measure.

Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee Chairman Steve Womack (R-AR) stated, “The bill prioritizes transportation safety — on our railways, roads and airways — and ensures a responsible safety net with housing support for our most vulnerable citizens, especially the elderly, the disabled, veterans, and the working poor. We have eliminated or reduced 38 programs, totaling $7.3 billion in savings. Additionally, we are redirecting over $4 billion from programs funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to real infrastructure: air traffic control, highways, maritime, and rail.”

Womack added that “this bill reflects the priorities of the Trump Administration and implements staffing reductions while maintaining essential services.” He emphasized that “transportation safety remains our highest priority for DOT,” noting that “$5 billion for FAA facilities and equipment” represents “a nearly $2 billion increase over FY25.” This investment is aimed at maintaining America’s global leadership in aviation by focusing on technology updates and facility improvements.

Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) remarked that “today’s Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development measure is about building stronger, traveling safer, and supporting American communities.” He highlighted that “this bill responsibly and effectively funds critical transportation and housing needs while safeguarding taxpayer dollars.” Cole pointed out that targeted investments will benefit both public travelers and freight haulers by improving reliability and safety in travel systems.

Cole also noted enhancements for FAA facilities aimed at modernizing air traffic control systems. These include hiring additional controllers and deploying new technologies to advance innovation in aircraft certification as well as drone integration.

Further details including full remarks prepared for delivery by both chairmen are available along with a summary of the bill text.
