The University of Oklahoma baseball team lost the final game of its series against Alabama, 3-2, on April 4 at Kimrey Family Stadium.
The outcome decided the series in favor of No. 16 Alabama over No. 11 Oklahoma. The Crimson Tide scored all three of their runs in the first inning, which proved to be enough for the win.
Alabama took advantage early when a combination of singles and fielding errors allowed three runs to score in the top of the first. After two consecutive singles opened the game, a wild pitch and passed ball brought home two runners. A dropped fly ball in center field then let another run cross the plate. Despite these early mistakes, Oklahoma’s bullpen held Alabama scoreless for the rest of the game.
Oklahoma responded with a Brendan Brock RBI single in their half of the first inning to cut into Alabama’s lead. In the fifth inning, Kyle Branch added another run with an infield single while bases were loaded; however, after review, a tag play at third base prevented a second run from scoring during that sequence.
Trent Collier started for Oklahoma and took his first loss this season after allowing three runs (one earned) over two innings pitched. The Sooners’ bullpen—Nick Wesloski, Gavyn Jones, Jason Bodin and Jackson Cleveland—combined for six shutout innings and recorded multiple strikeouts each.
Oklahoma outhit Alabama seven to five but was unable to capitalize on opportunities late in the game as runners reached scoring position in both the seventh and eighth innings without scoring.
Drew Dickerson had his second consecutive multi-hit performance for Oklahoma while both Collier and Jones matched their season highs with three strikeouts each. The Sooners are now 21-10 overall (5-7 SEC) following just their second loss this year when outhitting an opponent.
Looking ahead, Oklahoma will travel to Dallas Baptist for a Monday evening matchup scheduled at 6:30 p.m., which will be available on ESPN+.
